In another article I wrote about the few video games based on films that were good. It was a pretty easy to list make since there are only a few good video games based on films. This list, the worst video games based on films, will be much more difficult since I have narrow down a few choices out of the hundred or so choices. I’m there will be some I won’t list that will be one of your own choices for the worst video games based on movies but these are my choices.
Bad Video Games Based on Films: Top Gun
Top Gun is one of the most unimaginative video games of all-time. The player starts in a plane and takes off and then flies and flies…and flies some more. Yup, that’s basically it. Oh wait, you do also have to land, although by land I mean almost definitely crash.
Bad Video Games Based on Films: Jaws
Jaws is pretty much the same as Top Gun except replace the word “plane” with the word “boat.” Then replace the word “flies” with the word “swim.” At some point Jaws does show up so I guess it has a little bit more to offer than Top Gun, but not a whole lot.
Bad Video Games Based on Films: Tomorrow Never Dies
Goldeneye might possibly the best video game based on a film ever. For Tomorrow Never Dies all they had to do was make another game like Goldeneye except throw in a little bit of the Tomorrow Never Dies movie. Instead they made a completely new video game, a completely horrible new video game.
Bad Video Games Based on Films: Back to the Future
Back to the Future was a fantastic 80’s movie. But what if you took Back to the Future then removed Doc, removed the Delorean, removed Michael J. Fox, removed the clock tower, removed Marty McFly’s guitar skills and removed Lea Thompson. You would be left with Back to the Future the video game.
Bad Video Games Based on Films: E. T.
E. T. is one of the most popular, beloved and highest grossing films of all-time. The E. T. film is well known as one of the greatest films in history. But the E. T. video game is just as well known as one of the worst video games of all-time. E. T. was also the original bad video game based on a film.
Bad Video Games Based on Films: Street Fighter: The Movie
Pop Quiz! You have just created a highly successful video game series. Then there is a movie adaptation that completely bombs. It goes down in history as one of the worst films based on a video game in history. Do you A) pretend the movie never happened and continue with your successful video game series or B) create a new video game based on the awful movie? If you chose A then you are smarter than Capcom.
